Here I am stretching- this was my favorite part of today’s run!
I did NOT enjoy today’s run one bit. I generally run in the morning but there it was 3pm. Hell- I was doing it right?
I definitely did not have enough fluids in me from the day. My body felt stiff all over. My knees were grinding and for the first mile my left toes felt numb. Sounds like a blast right? Non runners- I know you’re wondering WHY? Why the heck do people run? Well- most days aren’t bad. Most are actually enjoyable for me. I use a walk run method to build up my mileage. This makes the run so doable! For ANY level. The app starts you with a 5 minute warm up walk and then takes you through a few intervals of running and walking. One minute walk, one minute run. Two minute run, one minute walk. You get the idea. It’s wonderful! It queues you when to run/walk. It works right along with my itunes and my Nike Run app. I can have my favorite music, a running coach and a tracker all on my phone! Technology is pretty cool!! (When it works and I can figure it out..more on that another time). I’ve really been into running again- I love feeling my lungs expand as I start to speed up the pace. I love feeling how my body grows stronger with each workout. I love working on my speed and stamina. It feels fantastic to get outside when the weather is gorgeous. Releasing endorphins and stress and the peaceful feeling of having the run done.
I had not run in about 6 months and started up again this spring. Dusted off my favorite phone app and let it guide me from beginner level to 26.2. So far this season my runs have been short- I wonder if I’ll feel the same as my training increases!?
I’ve got a ways to go- I’m sure you’ll be hearing all about it this journey to marathon. Oh yeah, did I forget to mention that I signed up to run a marathon in January 2016? Yup. I did. Not quite sure what I’ve gotten myself into this time. I thought signing up for a 10k was bad enough…
