Toss the bleached grains! I have a question for you. If you went to the bank with a $100 bill, and asked for change and the teller gave you $3.00 back 57 would you consider yourself ENRICHED by the transaction, or DEFRAUDED?
Well, that basically describes what is done to supposedly ‘ENRICHED’ flour products. Most of the good stuff
is stripped out – the bran and the germ that contain the fiber, vitamins and minerals. You are left with white powder and a few vitamins sprinkled in. Perhaps a better description would be ‘DEFRAUDED’ flour.
So yes, Toss the bleached grains! They are crushed beyond recognition of their original nutrient dense form!
Why would food manufacturers go to all the trouble to turn real food into a phantom food?
Because, refining the grains extends the shelf life of the product and makes it easier to cook. The problem is this – refined grains turn into sugar rapidly – causing your blood sugar to skyrocket. And you know by now, how bad that is. So, let’s get the trash bag and toss those tortillas, pasta and bread products that contain refined grains. If the label does not say whole grain, it goes.
