STRESS!!! Let’s face it WE ALL HAVE IT!
It can be a positive force that motivates us to ‘Get’er done’ or a negative force that zaps our energy and vibrance.
So – Let’s talk about it.
When you are stressed your adrenal glands release 3 stress hormones:
Norepinephrine is the ‘DO IT NOW’ hormone – more of this hormone is triggered for those manageable short term challenges like running a race or making a sales call.
What happens with norepinephrine is that it stops the production of Insulin – which is a hormone that cleans the sugar out of your blood. This is so you have enough energy to finish that race or make that call.
Epinephrine is the ‘ANXIETY’ hormone. More of this is triggered by those more pressing, short term challenges like traffic jams or throwing a dinner party.
With epinephrine, your digestion slows down and your appetite is suppressed so that you can focus on the challenge at hand, rather than eating. This is one of the reasons stress goes hand and hand with gastrointestinal problems.
NOW Cortisol is the hormone of ‘DEFEAT’. More cortisol is released under CHRONIC STRESS. And when you are continually overwhelmed, discouraged, feel hopeless -maybe it’s over debt, marriage, illness, workload…your body will continually pulse CORTISOL.
And the effects of excess cortisol is VERY damaging- which leads me into our topic.
