Stress, we all have it in our lives, some more than others. We all deal with stress in different ways. When we allow it to overtake our days and nights that is when it can take a toll on our body and our mind ~ and that is when we start unraveling! The last few weeks at my day job have been very stressful for me.
I generally try not to let things bother me so much that I cannot ‘shut it down’. This week I let it get the best of me which affected my mood, my eating habits and my overall well-being. Stress can sneak up on you and before you know it you are in full blown chronic stress which can lead to many physical issues like headaches, pain in the back or chest, sleeping difficulties, fainting, muscular aches and pains, stomach upset, high blood pressure, or heart disease. It can also lead to emotional issues like fatigue, anger, anxiety, depression or irritability and behaviors like binge eating or craving the wrong types of food, social withdrawal, increase alcohol or drug use, or angry outbursts.
How can you start to reverse the effects of stress on your body? There are several ways to make positive changes in your life. One is to acknowledge the signs that you are over-stressed ~ are you working too many hours, are you clenching your fists when things don’t go your way, or do you get a pain in your chest when feel overwhelmed? The second thing is to talk with others that can help you can ‘vent to’ or ‘let off steam’ with. This can help you calm down at the moment then you can continue to make changes that you will benefit from. Prioritizing your to do list or deleting some things that are not as important right now to accomplish. The third way is to take time for yourself, schedule exercise time into your day, get that massage you’ve been thinking about or some other type of relaxation activity that you enjoy. Nutrition is very important as well. Eating more fruits and vegetables along with protein and the right carbohydrates can help keep your immune system working properly.
Make sure you are giving yourself the best opportunity to live a stress-free life by taking care of yourself every day ~ living the best life you can and being the best version of you!
